James Gang Printing is here to show you how to silkscreen a T-shirt.
Once your artwork been finalized and finished, you want to have it turned into a positive film. You’re going to take a blank screen like the one shown in the video above which is not a blank obviously, and you’re going to expose emulsion to the screen. Once the emulsion hits the screen and then the light is exposed, and it’s going to get hard except for everywhere where there is black on your positive film giving you your image. It’s a lot like photography is very similar then once you have your screen prepared every single color in an image has to have its screen and then its color associated with that screen. We can do up to a six color here, then you attach your screens to the wheel, and then you pull the screen down, so I place the t-shirt here and pull the screen down over the t-shirt.
My squeegee ink will go across it, and ink is going to go through only where the emulsion did not accumulate on the screen which allows the ink to run through the screen onto your design. Then once you have enough ink on there, you can hit it once you can hit it twice or even three times to get your colors bold and strong. You then pull it off and run it through the dryer. We have a large-scale roller dryer here that’s up to 900 degrees you can also use the flash dryer that works pretty well too and then once it gets dried and hardens then you got yourself a silk screened shirt.
